Wordless Wednesday

  1. Have been thinking about what you wrote recently about the tradition of photographers in your family and your lifelong passion for photography and just want to say that it is a joy to witness the recent evolution of your art.

This photo has my attention because of its qualities of music and poetry and dance and theater and sculpture and drawing and painting and storytelling. There is something visionary about it. I'm also wondering when it was taken. The older girl's dress and shoes appear to be from the 1950s. The tile work also reminds me of the 1950s, but the water fountain looks contemporary. On the other hand, it's been years since I've seen a water fountain. When we were growing up in California, there were water fountains everywhere. In these years of drought, my guess is that they are no longer ubiquitous, if they exist at all in California.

    Excellent photograph. Iconic.

    1. Thank you. This must have been either 1959 or 60. I was born in '57 and that's me in the pink jumpsuit. This was taken at an elementary school in San Diego.

And thank you for commenting on the recent evolution of my art. This past year as been a real game changer, and I'm noticing it in my work. I'm glad that you did, as well. Telling my husband yesterday that I started off being influenced by the likes of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and a lot of west coast 'fern' photographers. Lots of close up of plants, rocks, wood, trees, etc. In the last two years I have become much more comfortable with "street" photography and getting close ups of people. I'm liking what I am seeing and the results.

My dad has so many great photos from our childhood. This is but one.
