ReplyDeleteI know. I get the same feeling when I'm wandering small towns or Paris: hard to imagine Nazi soldiers marching through the streets and shooting civilians -- which they did pretty indiscriminately. It the countryside, such as this, they shot civilians walking out of Paris to escape the siege. Flew over them and mowed them down. Now, it's a beautiful agricultural land again filled with small farms and villages.
